Basic Clay Hand Building Techniques: Pinching, Coiling, & Slab Building
Description:
When hand-building with clay, "pinching" involves manipulating a ball of clay by squeezing it between your fingers and thumb to create a form, often used for small, organic shapes like cups; "coiling" builds up walls by stacking rope-like clay coils on top of each other, ideal for larger vessels with controlled wall thickness; and "slab building" use flat sheets of clay (slabs) which can be cut, shaped, and joined to form more geometric or complex structures, allowing for intricate designs and textures across flat surfaces.
