To complete this assignment, use the provided images and tutorials on our class site: www.artschoool.ca along with the student’s workbook: The Artist’s Compass: Heart, Mind, Eyes, & Hands
Historical Link:
Study Pietro Perugino’s use of one-point perspective in “Christ Giving the Keys to St. Peter” (1481), which shows interior-like architectural depth. Examples
Cultural Link:
Explore Japanese Tatami room design, which uses perspective and symmetry in interior layouts. Examples
Steps to Complete the Assignment:
Set Up: Lightly draw a horizontal line across the center of your paper. Place one vanishing point in the middle.
Draw Floor and Ceiling: Create a grid using diagonal lines from the vanishing point and horizontal lines spaced evenly.
Add Walls: Use vertical lines to mark the left and right sides of the room. Connect floor and ceiling lines to create a box-like interior.
Sketch Furniture: Add simple objects like beds, tables, or windows by drawing boxes using the same perspective rules.
Refine Shapes: Use rulers to make edges clean and correct any distortion in angles.
Add Shading: Use blending techniques to add shadows and light, showing volume and form.
Final Details: Include small items (lamps, shelves, etc.) for creativity. Review composition and neatness.
Questions:
How did using a vanishing point help create space in your drawing?
What techniques did you use to show depth and dimension?
How did you personalize your interior space?
Writing Prompt:
