Principeles of Design: Emphasis
Emphasis:
Emphasis in art refers to a technique that draws the viewer's attention to a specific area or component of the composition. This is achieved by making a particular element stand out through the use of contrasting colors, sizes, shapes, or textures. Emphasis can be used to highlight the most important part of the artwork, guiding the observer's eye directly to the focal point. This is often where the artist wants to convey a particular message or evoke a specific emotion. For example, in a portrait, the artist might use a bright color or unique detail around the eyes to draw attention to the subject's gaze.
