Magical Golden Moments with Golden Pencil!!!
Magical Golden Moment: Structured Student Talk Activity
I created a game-like activity for Structured Student Talk (SST) called "Magical Golden Moment." This activity can take place at the beginning, middle, or end of the class. During this time, I play a timed video (you can see them below) while music plays. Students hold a golden pencil, similar to a talking stick, and answer given questions in groups of 4 to 6. I walk around the class, listening and guiding them if needed.
Activity Steps:
Students form small groups of 4 to 6 and arrange themselves in a circle.
Each group receives a "Golden Pencil" from the teacher.
They take turns holding the pencil and discussing a designated topic, such as their ongoing assignments, techniques, or compositions.
The teacher provides sentence frames to help students structure their sentences.

Example of students speaking:
I've been working on a self-reflection mixed media painting. First, I listed things I enjoy and traits that represent my personality. Next, I searched for reference images online, sketched them, and then integrated design elements like texture, value, and principles like contrast and balance to shape my painting. For technique, I opted for watercolor as a base, complemented by wax resist and marker detailing for color.
